I saw with the most recent firmware upgrade that there are now Boox-compatible versions of Koreader and Kindle, but it says to use the ones specific to Boox. Is there a special way to install these? Or do I simply get them from the Play store? Thank you.

Thank you – I also found a link to a “nightly build” of the Koreader application which worked.
Play store only shows one Kindle app (with the original grayscale Kindle icon).
I assume i just install that one?
There are no multiple versions in the Play Store or something similar, correct?
